PTV Vissim 9 Highlights

PTV Vissim 9 makes sure you reach the right solution. Thanks to an enhanced Scenario Management and additional evaluations, users can now efficiently compare the results of alternative planning variants and a new matrix editor allows ease of use when handling input data.

Scenario Management: Comparing scenario results conveniently

All users modelling different planning and design alternatives value the benefits of Scenario Management introduced with PTV Vissim 8. As of now, PTV Vissim 9 provides modellers with even more convenience, allowing the results of different scenarios to be compared in one place.

Through the project structure dialog, users may now very quickly define one or more other scenarios to be compared. Direct access is given to the attributes of the network objects and results in the array of scenarios modelled. Here, PTV Vissim 9 provides users not only with direct values of the same attributes across different scenarios, such as vehicle delay, but also the difference between the values in the current and comparison scenarios. The relative difference can be expressed as percentage as well as the minimum or maximum of the comparison values. In order to guarantee a clear overview, PTV Vissim portrays the results of scenario comparison attributes not only in lists, results lists and chart windows, but also visualises them in the network editor through colour schemes and link bars.

Enhanced evaluation possibilities: Level of Service results for nodes

PTV Vissim 9 users also benefit from new evaluation options for the qualitative assessment of junctions through three new Level of Service (LOS) attributes:

  • “LOS” illustrated by a letter from A to F, listing the Level of Service of the movement calculated similarly to the definition from the HCM 2010;
  • “LOS value” portraying the corresponding Level of Service numerical value, perfectly suited for user-defined formula attributes and also for use colour schemes to graphically present results in the network; and
  • “LOS scheme type” listing the level of service type for the junction i.e. “Signalized" or "Non-signalized".

The Level of Service results can be extracted for the various movements and directions of the node or junction, in addition "Total results” can be extracted which offer the aggregated Level of Service for the node or junction.

Improved handling of the matrices through matrix editor

With PTV Vissim 9 matrices are now dealt with internally through a matrix editor. This allows users to have more control over the management of matrices which are also automatically defined as network objects. Working with matrices in your model becomes simpler with the matrix editor, keeping track of the accuracy of values is easy and matrices can quickly be added for different time periods, demand and vehicle types. Also, all matrices can be edited in separate matrix editors which provides an array of functionality and versatility such as copying & pasting between matrices as well as adding mathematical operations such as multiplication or factoring to quickly change demand. The matrix editor has been specifically designed to support the user in the quick set up and management of single or multiple matrices, assuring improved handling of this attribute when undertaking modelling.

Visualisation highlights

PTV Vissim 9 provides users with several enhancements to visualisation, enabling them to display background map (Bing, Open Street Map) in 3D mode, flip 3D signal heads horizontally, positioning the green lights at the left side of signals, or simply adding more flexibility to visual outputs by allowing users to define a specific time for the animation to begin.
